Is taxation theft?

This philosophy has been written by many scholars and known statesmen. Murray Rothbard wrote in his book The Ethics Of Liberty that taxation is legitimate. Though most founding fathers are quoted as saying that taxation is essential, John Marshall said, "The power to tax is the power to destroy." Samuel Adams was also quoted as saying, "If taxes are laid upon us without our having a legal representation where they are laid, we are reduced from the character of free subjects to the state of tributary slaves.".

We could go on about taxes and how they should be collected and spent. One thing is for sure, when the Constitution was drafted, the crafters wanted to ensure that no one or entity influenced nor collected them other than the government for use of the people.
