Update: Kudlow's wife, Judy Kudlow, told the Washington Post that her husband is "doing fine." He's reportedly "up and talking."

Just as President Trump was arriving for his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the president stunned the world when he tweeted that his top economic advisor, Larry Kudlow, had suffered a heart attack. Kudlow, 70, is currently receiving treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Kudlow famously struggled with drugs and alcohol back in the 1990s, and his confession about his former behavior was the subject of an article in the New York Times published back in 1994, when Kudlow last worked in the White House.

Mr. Kudlow attributes his slide partly to pure pressure. On Wall Street there are producers and then there's everyone else, and the pressure to produce helped drive Mr. Kudlow to drink and drugs.

Then there was the exhausting travel and entertaining. "You think you're a superman, you think you can do anything," he said. "I felt invincible and that there were no limits as to how late I could stay up or how much I could travel. Today, I can see how tough it was."

As chairman of the National Economic Council, Kudlow is Trump's top economic advisor. He appeared on national television on Sunday to defend Trump and his decision not to sign the G-7 communique. Well-wishers' sympathies are pouring in on social media.

Kudlow had accompanied Trump to the G-7 summit in Quebec over the weekend, where he helped enforce Trump's unyielding line on US tariffs, before leaving for Singapore with Trump.

Here is the bombastic Kudlow we are used to seeing...

But we have to say he has looked better than the images of him in the last few days...
